Our by-laws state that a purpose of the Society is to establish a library. Some of our founders achieved this goal as directors of another group—the Long Island Historical Society, and George Post’s innovative design of the 1884 building at the corner of Pierrepont and Clinton Streets is a monument to their ambition.
Our Society, by contrast, has had to await the widespread application of computer technology to realize its ambition of establishing a library. The “virtual library” which emerges on this website could not have been imagined by our founders.
We have divided this library into the four sections which appear here on separate pages:
- the Society’s own publications,
- publications about New England,
- publications by our members on any subject, and
- publications by non-member friends, some of whom have been featured speakers at our events.
Suggestions concerning selections in The Library are welcome; please email secretary@newenglandsociety.org.
